Oracle Open World 2011 - Sessions


Here we go again!!

The JDEFusion team will be going again to cover this big event! I'll send updated information in real time directly from OOW 2011. Like the past years, we'll setup a JDEFusionTV channel with live video broadcast and you'll be able to see what's going on inside the conference.

Below the sessions we'll be attending. This year we'll open a space for Oracle Linux and  and Business Process Management as well as Oracle Server Manager - which is important not only because they are part of the Oracle suite of products, but they are in certain form involved directly (or indirectly) with JD Edwards. Also, I'm focused on mobile applications in JD Edwards and Web Services development. Let's explore together the hands on labs with cool sessions such as building composite apps in JDE using Related Information Application Framework (RIAF), introduced in JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools Release 8.98 Update 4.

I'm really excited about this year, to see what Lyle Ekdahl will be bringing to the JD Edwards community as a new vision of ERP and the strategic direction for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne and World.

General Session: JD Edwards 9 Is Now!

This hands-on lab shows how to install, configure, and use the Oracle Application Management Suite for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne for proactive system administration and service-level agreement (SLA) management.


JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Roadmap
This session reviews new product value that has been delivered since Oracle's JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Release 9.0 became available and takes a look at the roadmap and direction of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne.


JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools and Technologies Product Strategy: Update and ...
Oracle's JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools is a powerful platform for enterprise applications that continues to evolve. A customer best practice is to upgrade your tools release once per year. This is a low-cost, low-risk way to deliver an ongoing set of improvements to your users on a regular basis. Building Mobile Applications in JD Edwards EnterpriseOne
This session starts by describing the options for building mobile applications for users of Oracle's JD Edwards EnterpriseOne family of applications. This is followed by a hands-on lab exercise using Oracle Application Development Framework (Oracle ADF) for mobile.


Oracle Linux Package Management: Configuring and Enabling Services
This hands-on lab on Oracle Linux package management and configuration covers the following topics:
• Red Hat Package Manager (RPM)/Yum basics
• Upgrading to the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK)/switching to the RHEL-compatible kernel
• Basic networking (/etc/sysconfig/networking, dhcp,ifconfig/netstat/route)
• Run levels
• Starting and stopping services (service foo start/stop)
• Enabling/disabling services at bootup (chkconfig --add/--del)
• Creating and checking ext4 file systems (mkfs/fsck)
• Mounting file systems at bootup (editing /etc/fstab)
• Oracle-validated RPM Package Managers (RPMs)
• The /proc/* and /sys/* file systems
• Setting kernel parameters in /etc/sysctl.cnf (using examples from oracle_validated)


Building Composite Applications with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne
This hands-on lab starts by describing the options for building composite applications that include Oracle's JD Edwards EnterpriseOne and other enterprise applications. It also includes a detailed hands-on session using the Related Information Application Framework (RIAF), introduced in JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools Release 8.98 Update 4.


Develop Mobile Apps for iOS, Android, and More: Converging Web and Native App...
With the rapid advancement of mobile operating systems, developers can now use a variety of Web-based or device-native techniques to create compelling mobile applications to meet the demands of enterprise mobile users. However, to create mobile enterprise applications that support the mobile devices commonly found in enterprises today, developers basically have to develop the same application several times, using multiple tools, languages, and platforms.

This session discusses how Oracle Application Development Framework Mobile Client and Oracle JDeveloper bring together Web and device-native technologies into a common and consistent development environment and deliver consistent and powerful composite mobile applications to end users.



Create and Use a Page Template for Your Oracle WebCenter Portal
Page templates define the general look-and-feel and layout of a Oracle WebCenter portal. In this hands-on lab, you will create a new page template in Oracle JDeveloper (design-time) and use it in a running portal (runtime). During this process, you will learn the lifecycle of the page template by moving from the development environment to the runtime environment and then applying it to a site so you can see the full effect. Finally, using the resource manager, you will further tune the look-and-feel by modifying the skin the template uses.

Cloud computing is the latest trend in enterprise software, with the promise of reducing costs and improving efficiencies. Oracle's JD Edwards EnterpriseOne and JD Edwards World applications are suitable for running—on-premises or off-premises—in a private or public cloud, a hybrid configuration, or a hosted environment. Come to this session to understand the options and considerations for choosing the best infrastructure strategy for running your JD Edwards applications.



Extending JD Edwards Applications with Oracle ADF and Oracle SOA Suite
Oracle Application Development Framework (Oracle ADF) is a rich UI framework that simplifies development by offering out-of-the-box components and services visually assembled with drag-and-drop tools in Oracle JDeveloper. Oracle ADF-based UIs run on browsers, desktops, and mobile devices and complement the traditional UI abilities of Oracle's JD Edwards applications. This session discusses how Oracle ADF can be used with JD Edwards applications for a rich, dynamic user experience. Oracle SOA Suite offers a platform for integrating Oracle and third-party applications.
