JD Edwards VM Templates - Release 9.1.2 - Up and Running!

Here's the screenshot of my desktop with the VM Manager and JD Edwards 9.1 up and running!

It took me only two days to make this happen and after some issues, I could make the installation. The overall performance is better than the 9.0 release.

I still need to install the deployment server and development workstation, but the appliance is here! Up and running!!

If you are planning to upgrade the tools release, the VM Templates is a FAST and reliable solution for your company to take a deep insight about what's new in JD Edwards. You can install the VM Templates and put it up and running in a matter of hours!

I did a talk at INFOCUS'12 in how to install the VM Templates using a lean concept and submitted the same paper for Collaborate'13. Whether my paper is approved or not, I'll create a complete and detailed tutorial in how to setup these templates here in the blog! Keep in touch and let me know if you have interest in this, so I can accelerate the tutorials!

JD Edwards 9.1.2 VM Templates released

Here's a screenshot of my first impressions with the new JD Edwards VM Templates.

I tried to load the templates on my VM Server which I'm running JD Edwards 9.0, but didn't work as I expected.

Now, I virtualized the new VM Server - version 3.1.1 - on my desktop and installed the VM Manager on an Oracle Linux VM to do a preliminar tests before doing something on my HP server.

I'm really excited with this new version and it's coming complete with the most recent updates and features, and the learning curve is minimal for the VM Server Manager.

JD Edwards EnterpriseOne – A Flexible Architecture
JD Edwards EnterpriseOne applications run on top of a robust, flexible, and highly configurable architecture. Various components, such as logic servers, database servers, and web servers cooperate to provide a scalable and configurable technology platform that accommodates enterprises of all sizes, user counts, industries, and geographies.

Companies sometimes invest weeks to design, implement, and test the architecture that exactly meets their needs. However, not every implementation of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne requires such rigorous attention during the installation phase. Many customer scenarios can be accommodated by a fundamental configuration on a preconfigured technology stack. Providing a rapid installation of a base configuration, yet allowing for modification, yields the best of both worlds. Oracle VM templates for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne deliver this solution.

Oracle VM Templates
Oracle VM is Oracle’s state-of-the art virtualization offering. Oracle VM can be applied to address many IT issues, for example, server consolidation, disaster recovery, and high availability. Oracle VM templates are particularly effective in addressing the issue of rapid application deployment. Oracle VM can encapsulate the complete configuration of a virtual server into a data file—a template. This template can be used to create a new virtual machine, which then functions exactly as the original virtual machine. Oracle provides many such templates for its products, which customers can use to rapidly deploy applications and technology products.

User Interface enhancements make every aspect of JD Edwards easier, faster and more efficient, radically transforming the experience. JD Edwards takes full advantage of the new UI style that Oracle is building for the next generation Fusion Applications. In addition, this release includes the following innovations:
• Role base, configurable EnterpriseOne Pages are highly interactive and give users quick access to essential applications and reports.
• Menu Toolbar and the Carousel are the easiest way to launch applications, access reports and personalize favorites.
• Freeze, unfreeze, hide and show column personalization’s allow users to maximizes screen space and reduce the need to scroll to see the right data.
• Enhanced Query gives users a quick way to create and save powerful searches.
• Mobile computing is available on Apple iPad, including JD Edwards specific touch gestures, and Smartphones.

The Related Information Application Framework can be configured to automatically bring up external content such as Business Intelligence or external web applications which are
related to the JD Edwards information displayed.

IT Administration could not be easier, with Tools 9.1:
• Enterprise Manager 12c and JD Edwards Management Suite now enable administrators to define memory usage thresholds and alerts to remediate runaway processes for higher stability.
• Oracle Virtual Machines – VM for x86 has been certified for JD Edwards to make replicating or cloning an ideal system configuration even faster
• Clustering enhancements in the latest Tools release increase the resiliency of business services and transaction servers, eliminating a single point of failure.
• Certification of the latest Oracle Technologies including Fusion Middleware 11g PS4, Linux 6 and Solaris 11.
• Certification of the latest 3rd Party browser technologies including Safari,Firefox, Chrome and Internet Explorer.
• A simple portal can be delivered using EnterpriseOne Pages, eliminating the cost of a separate Portal Server infrastructure.
• The Customization Object Analyzer and Application Configuration Analyzer take cost and risk out of the upgrade process.

As I promised, I'll publish here the result of my studies and researches in video tutorials, papers and other materials. Stay tuned on and you'll learn how to implement the VM Templates on your home-office or company for Sandbox with a minimal hardware setup.

The INFOCUS Experience

Here's the INFOCUS'12 onsite guide
Think of an event where you breathe JD Edwards.

Think of an event where you can reach and talk directly with the JD Edwards Experts from Denver.

Think of an event where you can have your questions answered or find the solution of a problem in your business.

Think of an event where you have the main vendors and solution providers in JD Edwards: solutions in Archiving, Business Intelligence, Reporting, Integration, Disaster Recovery and more.

Think about a personalized event focused solely in JD Edwards processes, techniques, solutions and new technologies.

This is the INFOCUS experience.

At INFOCUS we had sessions related to:

  • Upgrade
  • Human Capital Management
  • Manufacturing, Distribution and Supply Chain
  • Disaster Recovery
  • Financials
  • Agile and Collaboration techniques
  • BI Publisher / OneView Reporting
  • Asset Management
  • Advance Cost Accounting
  • Media Objects
  • Real State
  • Security
  • Global Implementations
  • Purge and Archive
  • SIG Meetings
  • Oracle Application Testing Suite - OATS
  • Mobile Applications
  • Business Services
  • Project Costing
  • VM Templates
  • Transportation Management
  • E1 Pages
  • Supplemental Data
  • Self Service
  • WebCenter
  • Credit Card Integration
  • Training...

... and much more!

On Wednesday, I got to the Omni Interlocken hotel just on time and I had no problems to get my badge. Then I talked with some folks from Oracle - which had their Support booth on the entrance and they gave me this Avengers poster. Yes, I put on a frame and it's in my office now!

By the afternoon when the event started, we had the Quest Welcome keynote with Jim Whalen from Quest and Dawn Baker from Oracle.

Jim Whalen at INFOCUS'12

Dawn Baker at INFOCUS'12

The schedule was well organized and we had time for the sessions as well as to stop by some vendors booths. We had a snack meantime. I could not make the Welcoming Networking Reception, but I heard it was nice there.

The Thursday started really early: 7:30 am for exhibitors and 8:30 am for the sessions. But I was really excited: I'd have my first presentation in a JD Edwards event! I talked about VM Templates implementation and my session was at 3:30 pm.

The lunch was served - I got two pastrami sandwiches on french bagette and chips. I was feeling a little bit overwhelmed and I decided to eat outside. I sat on a bench in front the main entrance with a beautiful golf course in front of me and the food was good, but had to be fast, because soon starts the another round of sessions and I had to be prepared for my own presentation.

The time has passed and now I got ready for the show! But, unfortunately my session was in the same time as Oracle's main session - Welcome to JDE Labs - What's Development Up to Now? - so I didn't get the public I was expecting.

Gustavo Barizon at INFOCUS'12

So far so good, I had a great experience. It was my first international presentation. For me was a dream come true and I did my best. At least nobody left the presentation before I finish. It was a good signal!

At 5:30 pm the "Taste of Colorado Party with Exhibitors" started on the 1st floor. Again, it was a great chance to meet people and talk with the experts. I just met a guy - who I don't remember the name - which gave me his drinks tickets. I just had one beer - from a local Colorado micro-brewery - Dawn Baker mentioned Colorado has the major per-capta micro-breweries in US on the Welcome keynote!

It's Friday!!
The last conference day. I have to confess I was exhausted. The night before I worked out too hard on the gym, and Friday morning I was in bad conditions! The morning passed, good education sessions a rapid cofee-break and then the Closing Networking Lunch. The food was delicious! The BBQ chicken breasts were juicy and I liked the combination with the potato salad and the shrimp kabob. On the table I met other folks, we chitchat a little bit and I left before the raffle of prizes.

If you're asking if worth the investment to participate in such event, I say YES. Absolutely. The INFOCUS is pure JD Edwards. Is all about JD Edwards and I couldn't find any disadvantage or any other issue. The event staff did their work, I had no trouble with the presentation infrastructure. Internet, sound and projector worked well. I see no other problems at all in other sessions. I strongly recommend the INFOCUS if you're looking for information on upgrade, new processes implementations and to see what's going on in the JD Edwards ecosystem.

A special Tweet!

I have to confess: I'm not a Twitter fan... Since today!

I've added a new Twitter gadget on which allows to see all mentions of @OracleJDEdwards and look what I found on Lyle Ekdahl's Twiter! I couldn't believe!

So, I'm writing to say thank you for this Tweet. This is very important for me and represents a lot, because I'm running this blog moved by my passion and for me that's the best recognition I could have.

Again, Lyle, thanks for the Tweet! :)

INFOCUS 2012 - General Information

What is INFOCUS & why is the community SO excited?

JD Edwards INFOCUS is a new product-focused event, replacing our Regional events. This new event will offer in-depth education into JD Edwards EnterpriseOne in a way that isn’t possible at COLLABORATE due to space limitations. The community has been waiting for its own event since 2005 to really take a deeper look into products and re-invigorate the year long SIG programs.  This event promises to do both while complementing the learning and work done at COLLABORATE.  Better yet, it's in Denver - the home of JD Edwards. The JD Edwards Oracle stratagy teams couldn't be more excited about the homecoming.

How is it different from COLLABORATE?

COLLABORATE is still where you hear the big Oracle announcements and industry news; the only global conference focusing on the Oracle ecosystem at the macro level. COLLABORATE is the only JD Edwards customer-led event that will offer Fusion education, JD Edwards World education, new product releases and strategies from Oracle and the partner community, plus an emphasis on professional development and executive content. Quest will continue to offer targeted networking by special interest and geographic location at COLLABORATE and provide our user communities to kick off many of their plans for the year after they've learned the macro level view of what's coming down the road. JD Edwards INFOCUS is where you dig into the product at the micro level.

Who should attend?

The end users of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne (those that use the products on a daily or near-daily basis) who are looking for focused education should attend the new JD Edwards INFOCUS event.  Also those JD Edwards World customers looking to migrate to EnterpriseOne will find the type of education available extremely valuable. Education will dig into enhancements, techniques and tips for your tower modules and more.
The Oracle JD Edwards customers that make decisions for their company, should attend COLLABORATE for the high-level education, professional development, announcements and networking opportunities provided there. Education there will continue to address best practices, roadmaps and usability of your towers. JD Edwards INFOCUS is complementary to COLLABORATE so if you fall into both categories, we recommend attending both events to receive the complete spectrum of education available to make the most out of your ERP.
